For all children in Grades 5 & 6 the interschool sporting program is a regular part of their weekly physical education program. Apollo Parkways Primary School is a participating school in the Diamond Valley Primary School Sports Association (DVPSSA) which operates winter and sporting fixtures. To allow for all children to participate in the weekly matches the school enters three teams in the draw – The Apollo Rockets, Apollo Comets and Apollo Meteors. As a member of the DVPSSA the school also participates in athletics, cross country and swimming carnivals.
In 2009 our students had much success with first placing in the DVPSSA swimming carnival and premierships in the following team sports: girls rounders, boys bat tennis, girls netball, boys and girls softball, girls basketball and boys soccer.
At State level we had representative teams competing to the following levels: girls hockey were State champions whilst our girls netball team came 4th at State championships. The girl’s rounders team were metropolitan champions the highest possible achievement under changed competition guidelines.
At the national level we had three students selected to represent Victoria in either individual or team events. All of this sporting success was capped off in December when two students were awarded Victorian School Sport-Sporting Blues awards, the highest accolade for sporting achievement in our education system.
