Grade 4 – Exploring Australian History

Today our Grade 4 students took a deep dive into Australia’s rich history, focusing on the lives of Aboriginal people before and after the arrival of the First Fleet.

Through a series of engaging, hands-on activities, students explored both Indigenous culture and early colonial life. The activities included:

  1. Spice Making – Students used a mortar and pestle to create their own spice blends.

  2. Love Tokens – Each student designed their own convict “love token” to reflect stories from the past.

  3. Ngaka Ngaka – Students made and played an ancient Aboriginal game.

  4. Traditional Clay Puppets – A creative session where students crafted puppets using clay.

  5. Artefacts Table – Students had the chance to explore and examine a variety of Indigenous artefacts up close.

It was a fantastic day of learning, curiosity, and connection to Australia’s history.
